Division Drill Worksheets

Division enters in grade 3 as equal sharing and the inverse of multiplication, then moves through remainders and multi-digit dividends in grade 4, two-digit divisors in grade 5, and full long division in grade 6. Sheets here cover each step: facts to 144 ÷ 12 and unknown-factor problems for grade 3, one-digit divisors with and without remainders for grade 4, two-digit divisors for grade 5, and long division with two- and three-digit divisors for grade 6.

The vertical sheets use the long-division bracket, so the student writes the quotient above the dividend the way the algorithm expects. Missing-number sheets blank the dividend or divisor rather than the quotient, which is what makes them practice in the inverse relationship rather than just more division.

Choose a grade

Division on this site runs from Grade 3 to grade 6: 24 worksheets across four grades and six formats (drill, timed drill, missing number, mixed review, word problems, and vertical format), each in three versions, for 2,058 problems in all with every answer keyed. Five of the sheets were first published on MathSheetLab and are kept here as Set A of their cell, with Sets B and C derived from them.

The six formats

  • Drill. Straight practice, 20-40 problems. A run of same-shaped quotients is where the steps of the algorithm stop needing to be thought about.
  • Timed Drill. Fact fluency, 50-100 problems, timer box on sheet. Division facts are recalled through their multiplication partners, and a timed page shows which partners are not yet automatic.
  • Missing Number. Solve for the blank in any position. Blanking the dividend or divisor turns the sheet into multiplication practice from the other side.
  • Mixed Review. Assorted problem shapes from the operation. Mixing exact quotients with remainders and small divisors with large ones keeps the student deciding what each problem needs.
  • Word Problems. Story problems in real-world contexts. Sharing and grouping situations both divide, but they read differently, and recognising both is the point.
  • Vertical Format. Column arithmetic with regrouping lines. The long-division bracket is the layout the algorithm was written for; the quotient goes where it belongs.
