Percents Drill Worksheets

Percent is a fraction with a fixed denominator, and the sheets here keep that connection visible. Grade 5 converts between percents, fractions and decimals and takes benchmark percents of a number; grade 6 finds a percent of a number, what percent one number is of another, and the whole from a part; grade 7 applies it to tax, tip, discount and percent change; grade 8 adds simple interest and multi-step percent problems.

Every percent-of-a-number problem on these sheets has a clean answer — the numbers are chosen so that 15% of 60 comes out to 9, not 9.000000001 — because the skill being practised is the reasoning, not long division.

Choose a grade

Percents on this site runs from Grade 5 to grade 8: 20 worksheets across four grades and five formats (drill, timed drill, missing number, mixed review, and word problems), each in three versions, for 1,896 problems in all with every answer keyed. One of the sheets were first published on MathSheetLab and are kept here as Set A of their cell, with Sets B and C derived from them.

The six formats

  • Drill. Straight practice, 20-40 problems. Percents of a number, page after page, is how the benchmark values — 10%, 25%, 50% — become instant.
  • Timed Drill. Fact fluency, 50-100 problems, timer box on sheet. Conversions between percents, fractions and decimals are facts as much as procedures, and a timer tells you which are known.
  • Missing Number. Solve for the blank in any position. Blanking the percent, the whole or the part gives the same relationship three different ways.
  • Mixed Review. Assorted problem shapes from the operation. Conversions, percent-of and reverse problems on one page keep the student reading the question, not the pattern.
  • Word Problems. Story problems in real-world contexts. Sales, tips, tests and savings are the contexts percent was invented for.
