How to use this worksheet
Expect twenty minutes or so of real attention for sixteen problems. At grade 6, division rewards care over speed — a rushed vertical format gets the arithmetic right and the signs or units wrong. Use the key as a check, not as a grade; none of the sixteen problems needs a score attached to be useful.
One mistake to watch for
The first digit of the quotient is placed over the wrong digit of the dividend. On this grade 6 vertical format, problem 11 ("9430 ÷ 46") is the kind of item where it shows.
The student has not asked how many times the divisor goes into the leading part of the dividend.
Underline the smallest leading part of the dividend the divisor fits into before writing anything.
