What this worksheet covers

There are twenty division problems here — one page to work, one page of answers to check against — and Sets B and C repeat the layout with different numbers. Within that, the numbers run as high as 90. Problems 7 and 14, for instance, are "28 ÷ 4" and "18 ÷ 3". The sheet sits inside Common Core 3.OA.6, in the grade 3 Operations & Algebraic Thinking strand.

Skills practised

At grade 3, division is about division facts with divisors to 10 and 12, and division as an unknown-factor problem, and this sheet takes one slice of that. The skill on the page: division as an Unknown-Factor Problem. Concretely, the sheet tests whether a student can recall the division facts quickly and accurately, without counting up to them. Seven different answers appear across the twenty problems, so a student cannot copy one result down the page.

About the mixed review format

Mixed review changes the problem shape as the page goes on, so the 20 problems here cover more than one shape rather than one procedure repeated; problem 7, "28 ÷ 4" sits next to problems of a different kind. Mixing exact quotients with remainders and small divisors with large ones keeps the student deciding what each problem needs.

Set A, Set B and Set C

Set A is the sheet as it was first published on MathSheetLab, and Sets B and C were derived from it problem by problem: each number became a slot redrawn with the same shape, and every answer was recomputed exactly. Where Set A's problem 11 is "30 ÷ 5", Set B's is "54 ÷ 9".

How to use this worksheet

Give this mixed review uninterrupted. At grade 3, division is where procedure and recall have to run at the same time, and twenty problems done in fragments hide which of the two is the problem. Use the key as a check, not as a grade; none of the twenty problems needs a score attached to be useful.

One mistake to watch for

Division facts are found by guessing and checking with multiplication, slowly. On this grade 3 mixed review, problem 14 ("18 ÷ 3") is the kind of item where it shows.

The division fact is not stored; only the multiplication fact is.

Practise each times-table row as division facts too, and pair every missing-factor problem with its division form.
