What this worksheet covers
This is a 16-problem vertical format for grade 5 division, printed in black and white with the key on page two. Within that, seven quotients leave a remainder that has to be reported, not rounded away and the numbers run as high as 6,702. Problems 6 and 11, for instance, are "934 ÷ 27" and "2448 ÷ 8". The sheet sits inside Common Core 5.NBT.6, in the grade 5 Number & Operations in Base Ten strand.

Grade 5 division means two-digit divisors, four-digit dividends and dividing by powers of ten. About the vertical format format
Vertical format stacks the two operands over a rule with space above for regrouped digits; the 16 problems, problem 6, "934 ÷ 27" among them, sit four to a row. The long-division bracket is the layout the algorithm was written for; the quotient goes where it belongs.
Set A, Set B and Set C
All three sets are produced by the site's deterministic generator from a fixed seed, so they are the same every time the site is built and the answer keys are exact. Where Set A's problem 9 is "694 ÷ 24", Set B's is "2050 ÷ 26".
How to use this worksheet
Give this vertical format uninterrupted. At grade 5, division is where procedure and recall have to run at the same time, and sixteen problems done in fragments hide which of the two is the problem. Mark the sixteen problems the same day using the key — an error caught immediately is a correction, and one caught next week is a habit.
One mistake to watch for
The first digit of the quotient is placed over the wrong digit of the dividend. On this grade 5 vertical format, problem 11 ("2448 ÷ 8") is the kind of item where it shows.
The student has not asked how many times the divisor goes into the leading part of the dividend.
Underline the smallest leading part of the dividend the divisor fits into before writing anything.
