What this worksheet covers
There are 60 division problems here — one page to work, one page of answers to check against — and Sets B and C repeat the layout with different numbers. What makes this set particular: the numbers run as high as 9,600. Problems 21 and 41, for instance, are "16 ÷ 2" and "54 ÷ 9". It is written against Common Core 3.OA.7 — Operations & Algebraic Thinking, grade 3.
Skills practised
At grade 6, division is about long division with two- and three-digit divisors and multi-digit quotients, and this sheet takes one slice of that. What a student is asked to do here is division facts to 144 ÷ 12 and mental division of multiples of 100. To finish it, a student has to recall the division facts quickly and accurately, without counting up to them. Seventeen different answers appear across the 60 problems, so a student cannot copy one result down the page.
About the timed drill format
The timer box at the top has room for minutes, seconds and a score out of 60; a realistic target for a page like this, where problem 21, "16 ÷ 2" is a typical item, is three to four minutes. Division facts are recalled through their multiplication partners, and a timed page shows which partners are not yet automatic.
Set A, Set B and Set C
All three sets are produced by the site's deterministic generator from a fixed seed, so they are the same every time the site is built and the answer keys are exact. Where Set A's problem 31 is "15 ÷ 5", Set B's is "33 ÷ 11".
How to use this worksheet
Work it without a calculator. Every one of the 60 division problems is designed to be done by hand, and reaching for a calculator at grade 6 skips exactly the reasoning being built. Print Set B of this division timed drill before writing on Set A; the same skill worked twice a week apart tells you far more than once.
