Set A of this grade 5 timed drill sheet holds 72 division problems on one printable page, with the answer key on the page behind it. Within that, the numbers run as high as 98,000. Two problems from the middle of the page — "32 ÷ 4" and "21 ÷ 7" — show the range. Common Core 3.OA.7 is the slot this page fills.
Skills practised
At grade 5, division is about two-digit divisors, four-digit dividends and dividing by powers of ten, and this sheet takes one slice of that. Specifically, the problems practise division facts to 144 ÷ 12 and dividing by powers of ten. To finish it, a student has to recall the division facts quickly and accurately, without counting up to them. 39 different answers appear across the 72 problems, so a student cannot copy one result down the page.
About the timed drill format
With 72 short problems such as problem 25, "32 ÷ 4" and a timer box, this page measures recall rather than method — write the time down, and aim to beat it on Set B. Division facts are recalled through their multiplication partners, and a timed page shows which partners are not yet automatic.
Set A, Set B and Set C
The three sets come from the same generator with three different seeds: same skill, same layout, fresh numbers, and an answer key computed with the problems. Where Set A's problem 37 is "110 ÷ 10", Set B's is "50 ÷ 5".
How to use this worksheet
Work the 72 problems straight through, then check against the key together rather than handing it back marked; asking a grade 5 student to find their own division error teaches more than seeing it circled. Use the key as a check, not as a grade; none of the 72 problems needs a score attached to be useful.
