What this worksheet covers

24 percents problems fill this missing number page; problem 9 asks "___% of 40 = 32", and the sheet stays at that level throughout. Within that, each problem arrives as a few sentences of context rather than a bare expression and the blank moves between positions from problem to problem, so no single procedure clears the page. Further down, problem 17 asks "25% of ___ = 25". It is written against Common Core 7.RP.3 — Ratios & Proportional Relationships, grade 7.

Skills practised

The grade 7 percents sequence covers tax, tip and discount, percent increase and decrease, and harder percents of a number; this page sits inside it. What a student is asked to do here is percent of a number and finding the whole from a percent. Working the page asks a student to read a situation and choose an operation before computing and reason backwards from a result to a missing part. Seventeen different answers appear across the 24 problems, so a student cannot copy one result down the page.

About the missing number format

The 24 problems here move the unknown around, so a student solves for a missing part as often as for a result; problem 9, "___% of 40 = 32" is one of them. Blanking the percent, the whole or the part gives the same relationship three different ways.

Set A, Set B and Set C

The three sets come from the same generator with three different seeds: same skill, same layout, fresh numbers, and an answer key computed with the problems. Where Set A's problem 13 is "25% of 60 = ___", Set B's is "50% of 20 = ___".

How to use this worksheet

Expect twenty minutes or so of real attention for 24 problems. At grade 7, percents rewards care over speed — a rushed missing number gets the arithmetic right and the signs or units wrong. Keep the key face down until all 24 problems are finished, then go through the misses together rather than only totalling the score.

One mistake to watch for

Percent change is computed against the new value instead of the original. On this grade 7 missing number, problem 17 ("25% of ___ = 25") is the kind of item where it shows.

The reference quantity has not been identified.

Write "change ÷ original" above the problem every time, and label which number is the original.
