What this worksheet covers
This is a 60-problem timed drill for grade 7 percents, printed in black and white with the key on page two. Within that, several problems use mixed numbers, which have to be handled without dropping the whole-number part and operands run to two decimal places, so the decimal points have to be lined up rather than the right-hand digits. Problems 21 and 41, for instance, are "81% of 283" and "68% of 424". It is written against Common Core 7.RP.3 — Ratios & Proportional Relationships, grade 7.
Skills practised
At grade 7, percents is about tax, tip and discount, percent increase and decrease, and harder percents of a number, and this sheet takes one slice of that. What a student is asked to do here is percent of a number and percents, fractions and decimals. Working the page asks a student to work in fractional units and give the answer in lowest terms and keep the decimal points aligned.
About the timed drill format
The timer box at the top has room for minutes, seconds and a score out of 60; a realistic target for a page like this, where problem 21, "81% of 283" is a typical item, is three to four minutes. Conversions between percents, fractions and decimals are facts as much as procedures, and a timer tells you which are known.
Set A, Set B and Set C
All three sets are produced by the site's deterministic generator from a fixed seed, so they are the same every time the site is built and the answer keys are exact. Where Set A's problem 31 is "7% of 291", Set B's is "65% of 116".
How to use this worksheet
Expect twenty minutes or so of real attention for 60 problems. At grade 7, percents rewards care over speed — a rushed timed drill gets the arithmetic right and the signs or units wrong. If more than a third of the 60 problems come back wrong, stop and step back a grade in percents rather than assigning Set B.
