How to use this worksheet
Work it without a calculator. Every one of the ten percents problems is designed to be done by hand, and reaching for a calculator at grade 8 skips exactly the reasoning being built. Keep the key face down until all ten problems are finished, then go through the misses together rather than only totalling the score.
One mistake to watch for
A discount problem ends at the discount: a 25% off $60 item is "$15". Watch problem 7 of this word problems — "Carla has saved 60% of the $80 needed for a bike. How much…" — for this one.
The question asked for the sale price, and the student stopped at the first number computed.
Underline what the question is asking before starting, and check the answer is that thing.
