What this worksheet covers
This is a 30-problem drill for grade 5 percents, printed in black and white with the key on page two. Several problems use mixed numbers, which have to be handled without dropping the whole-number part and operands run to two decimal places, so the decimal points have to be lined up rather than the right-hand digits. Problems 11 and 21, for instance, are "Write 15% as a decimal." and "Write 20% as a decimal.". Common Core 6.RP.3 is the slot this page fills.

About the drill format
A drill is straight practice: 30 problems of the same kind, laid out across the page with working space under each — problem 11, "Write 15% as a decimal." is typical of the whole page. Percents of a number, page after page, is how the benchmark values — 10%, 25%, 50% — become instant.
Set A, Set B and Set C
All three sets are produced by the site's deterministic generator from a fixed seed, so they are the same every time the site is built and the answer keys are exact. Where Set A's problem 16 is "60% of 300", Set B's is "75% of 50".
How to use this worksheet
By grade 5 a student should take all 30 percents problems in one sitting. If the page takes more than about fifteen minutes, the underlying facts are probably not automatic yet, and that is worth fixing before more percents practice piles on. If more than a third of the 30 problems come back wrong, stop and step back a grade in percents rather than assigning Set B.
One mistake to watch for
The percent is used as a plain number: 20% of 50 is answered 1,000 or 70. Watch problem 21 of this drill — "Write 20% as a decimal." — for this one.
The percent sign is being read as decoration and the "per hundred" is lost.
Rewrite every percent as a fraction over 100 or a decimal before computing, for as long as it takes to become automatic.
