Grade 4 Addition Worksheets

The grade 4 addition sequence is about the standard algorithm on four- and five-digit numbers, and these six sheets cover it format by format, three versions each.

The drill has 30 problems, 30 of them regrouping (problem 11: "6283 + 6609"). The timed drill has 72 problems, 30 of them regrouping (problem 25: "7 + 13"). The missing number has 24 problems, numbers to 15,442 (problem 9: "___ + 8470 = 10410"). The mixed review has 30 problems, 22 of them regrouping (problem 11: "2873 + 9360"). The word problems has 10 problems, story problems (problem 4: "One container weighs 401 grams and another weighs 191…"). The vertical format has 16 problems, fifteen of them regrouping (problem 6: "3067 + 7353").

Across the six sheets the generator draws on four-digit addition with the standard algorithm, addition facts within 20, adding hundreds mentally, five-digit addition, and adding three multi-digit numbers. The pages are tagged to Common Core 4.NBT.4 and 2.OA.2, and each tag links to the standards index.

If this level is not landing, step to grade 3 addition, where the focus is three-digit column addition with regrouping in more than one place; if it is too easy, grade 4 moves on to the standard algorithm on four- and five-digit numbers.

Start with the grade 4 addition drill to see whether the method is in place, use the timed drill only once accuracy is there, and save the word problems for the point where the student can compute without thinking about it.
