What this worksheet covers
This is a 30-problem mixed review for grade 4 addition, printed in black and white with the key on page two. Within that, 22 of the 23 column problems need regrouping and the rest do not, so the two cases are mixed rather than blocked and the numbers run as high as 99,588. Problems 11 and 21, for instance, are "2873 + 9360" and "900 + 400". Common Core 4.NBT.4 is the slot this page fills.
Skills practised
Grade 4 addition means the standard algorithm on four- and five-digit numbers. Specifically, the problems practise four-digit addition with the standard algorithm, five-digit addition, and adding hundreds mentally. Working the page asks a student to carry or borrow across place-value columns without losing a digit. 28 different answers appear across the 30 problems, so a student cannot copy one result down the page.
About the mixed review format
Mixed review changes the problem shape as the page goes on, so the 30 problems here cover four different skills rather than one procedure repeated; problem 11, "2873 + 9360" sits next to problems of a different kind. Alternating shapes stops a student from running one procedure on autopilot down the page.
Set A, Set B and Set C
All three sets are produced by the site's deterministic generator from a fixed seed, so they are the same every time the site is built and the answer keys are exact. Where Set A's problem 16 is "204 + 189 + 878", Set B's is "6858 + 4251".
How to use this worksheet
By grade 4 a student should take all 30 addition problems in one sitting. If the page takes more than about fifteen minutes, the underlying facts are probably not automatic yet, and that is worth fixing before more addition practice piles on. Keep the key face down until all 30 problems are finished, then go through the misses together rather than only totalling the score.
One mistake to watch for
Regrouping is skipped: 47 + 38 is answered as 715. Watch problem 21 of this mixed review — "900 + 400" — for this one.
Each column is treated as its own one-digit problem with no place-value structure joining them.
Return to expanded form for a few days and ask what 7 + 8 is worth; fifteen ones cannot sit in the ones column.
