What this worksheet covers
Twenty multiplication problems fill this mixed review page; problem 7 asks "9 × 80", and the sheet stays at that level throughout. What makes this set particular: the numbers run as high as 90. Further down, problem 14 asks "4 × 70". It is written against Common Core 3.NBT.3 — Number & Operations in Base Ten, grade 3.
Skills practised
Grade 3 multiplication means multiplication facts to 10 × 10 and 12 × 12, and multiplying by multiples of ten. The skill on the page: multiplying by Multiples of 10. Working the page asks a student to recall the multiplication facts quickly and accurately, without counting up to them. Nineteen different answers appear across the twenty problems, so a student cannot copy one result down the page.
About the mixed review format
The 20 problems are deliberately assorted — problem 7, "9 × 80" is followed by something of another shape — so the student has to read each one rather than run the last method again. Mixing facts, multiples of ten and larger products on one page keeps a student choosing a method instead of repeating one.
Set A, Set B and Set C
Set A is the original MathSheetLab worksheet; Sets B and C keep its structure and redraw the numbers, with each answer recomputed rather than copied. Where Set A's problem 11 is "3 × 80", Set B's is "4 × 20".
How to use this worksheet
Give this mixed review uninterrupted. At grade 3, multiplication is where procedure and recall have to run at the same time, and twenty problems done in fragments hide which of the two is the problem. Mark the twenty problems the same day using the key — an error caught immediately is a correction, and one caught next week is a habit.
One mistake to watch for
Zeros are lost when multiplying by multiples of ten: 6 × 40 becomes 24. Watch problem 14 of this mixed review — "4 × 70" — for this one.
The fact 6 × 4 is recalled and the ten is forgotten.
Rewrite 6 × 40 as 6 × 4 × 10 for a few days so the ten is a visible factor rather than a decoration.
