What this worksheet covers
There are 30 multiplication problems here — one page to work, one page of answers to check against — and Sets B and C repeat the layout with different numbers. The numbers run as high as 839. Problems 11 and 21, for instance, are "2 × 50" and "26 × 6". It is written against Common Core 4.NBT.5 — Number & Operations in Base Ten, grade 4.
Skills practised
Grade 4 multiplication means two- and three-digit by one-digit products and two-digit by two-digit multiplication. The skills on the page: two-digit by one-digit multiplication, three-digit by one-digit multiplication, and two-digit by two-digit multiplication. Working the page asks a student to recall the multiplication facts quickly and accurately, without counting up to them. 29 different answers appear across the 30 problems, so a student cannot copy one result down the page.
About the mixed review format
Mixed review changes the problem shape as the page goes on, so the 30 problems here cover four different skills rather than one procedure repeated; problem 11, "2 × 50" sits next to problems of a different kind. Mixing facts, multiples of ten and larger products on one page keeps a student choosing a method instead of repeating one.
Set A, Set B and Set C
All three sets are produced by the site's deterministic generator from a fixed seed, so they are the same every time the site is built and the answer keys are exact. Where Set A's problem 16 is "786 × 3", Set B's is "7 × 20".
How to use this worksheet
By grade 4 a student should take all 30 multiplication problems in one sitting. If the page takes more than about fifteen minutes, the underlying facts are probably not automatic yet, and that is worth fixing before more multiplication practice piles on. If more than a third of the 30 problems come back wrong, stop and step back a grade in multiplication rather than assigning Set B.
One mistake to watch for
In two-digit multiplication the second partial product is not shifted left, so 34 × 12 comes out as 102. Problem 21 on this grade 4 mixed review page, "26 × 6", is where to look for it.
The 1 in 12 is being treated as one, not ten.
Have the student write the placeholder zero in the ones column of the second row and say "ten times" aloud as they start it.
