What this worksheet covers
Set A of this grade 3 mixed review sheet holds 30 mixed operations problems on one printable page, with the answer key on the page behind it. What makes this set particular: four of the seven column problems need regrouping and the rest do not, so the two cases are mixed rather than blocked and the numbers run as high as 92. Two problems from the middle of the page — "9 × 12 + 4" and "5 × 8" — show the range. It is written against Common Core 3.OA.7 — Operations & Algebraic Thinking, grade 3.
Skills practised
Grade 3 mixed operations means all four operations, with two-step expressions introduced. What a student is asked to do here is all four operations, mixed multiplication and division facts, and two-step expressions. Concretely, the sheet tests whether a student can carry or borrow across place-value columns without losing a digit. 25 different answers appear across the 30 problems, so a student cannot copy one result down the page.
About the mixed review format
The 30 problems are deliberately assorted — problem 11, "9 × 12 + 4" is followed by something of another shape — so the student has to read each one rather than run the last method again. This format is the operation's natural home: every problem shape the grade knows, in no fixed order.
Set A, Set B and Set C
The three sets come from the same generator with three different seeds: same skill, same layout, fresh numbers, and an answer key computed with the problems. Where Set A's problem 16 is "56 ÷ 8", Set B's is "2 × 3 - 30".
How to use this worksheet
Work the 30 problems straight through, then check against the key together rather than handing it back marked; asking a grade 3 student to find their own mixed operations error teaches more than seeing it circled. If more than a third of the 30 problems come back wrong, stop and step back a grade in mixed operations rather than assigning Set B.
One mistake to watch for
Two-step expressions are evaluated left to right: 3 + 4 × 5 gives 35. On this grade 3 mixed review, problem 21 ("5 × 8") is the kind of item where it shows.
The convention that multiplication comes first has not been taught, or is not yet automatic.
Box the multiplication or division first on every problem, then evaluate, and only then add or subtract.
