What this worksheet covers
There are 30 mixed operations problems here — one page to work, one page of answers to check against — and Sets B and C repeat the layout with different numbers. Two of the 30 problems involve a negative quantity and the expressions carry exponents, so the order of operations decides the answer. Problems 11 and 21, for instance, are "3 × 4 - 97" and "6² + 2". Common Core 6.EE.1 is the slot this page fills.
Skills practised

To finish it, a student has to carry or borrow across place-value columns without losing a digit, track direction as well as magnitude, and apply the order of operations to powers. 25 different answers appear across the 30 problems, so a student cannot copy one result down the page.

Set A, Set B and Set C
All three sets are produced by the site's deterministic generator from a fixed seed, so they are the same every time the site is built and the answer keys are exact. Where Set A's problem 16 is "(60 ÷ 5) + 12", Set B's is "(3 + 6)²".
How to use this worksheet
Work it without a calculator. Every one of the 30 mixed operations problems is designed to be done by hand, and reaching for a calculator at grade 6 skips exactly the reasoning being built. One mistake to watch for
The operation sign is ignored: every problem on a mixed page is added. On this grade 6 mixed review, problem 21 ("6² + 2") is the kind of item where it shows.
