What this worksheet covers
Set A of this grade 3 mixed review sheet holds 30 time and money problems on one printable page, with the answer key on the page behind it. What makes this set particular: six of the problems are drawn clock faces to read and operands run to two decimal places, so the decimal points have to be lined up rather than the right-hand digits. Two problems from the middle of the page — "2 quarters and 3 pennies" and "1 dollar bill, 1 quarter, 1 dime, 2 nickels and 2 pennies" — show the range. It is written against Common Core 3.MD.1 — Measurement & Data, grade 3.
Skills practised
Grade 3 time and money means reading a clock to the minute, elapsed time in minutes, making change, and adding money. Specifically, the problems practise reading a clock to the minute, elapsed time in minutes, and making change. To finish it, a student has to keep the decimal points aligned, carry money notation through to the answer, and read both hands of an analog clock.
About the mixed review format
The 30 problems are deliberately assorted — problem 11, "2 quarters and 3 pennies" is followed by something of another shape — so the student has to read each one rather than run the last method again. Clocks, coins, change and elapsed time on one page keep the student switching between two systems, which is what daily life asks.
Set A, Set B and Set C
The three sets come from the same generator with three different seeds: same skill, same layout, fresh numbers, and an answer key computed with the problems. Where Set A's problem 16 is "1 dollar bill, 2 quarters, 3 nickels and 2 pennies", Set B's is "What time does the clock show?".
How to use this worksheet
Work the 30 problems straight through, then check against the key together rather than handing it back marked; asking a grade 3 student to find their own time and money error teaches more than seeing it circled. Use the key as a check, not as a grade; none of the 30 problems needs a score attached to be useful.
One mistake to watch for
Change is found by subtracting the payment from the price. Watch problem 21 of this mixed review — "1 dollar bill, 1 quarter, 1 dime, 2 nickels and 2 pennies" — for this one.
The two amounts have not been identified as "what was given" and "what was owed".
Count up from the price to the amount paid with coins; the coins used are the change.
