What this worksheet covers
There are 24 mixed operations problems here — one page to work, one page of answers to check against — and Sets B and C repeat the layout with different numbers. What makes this set particular: ten of the eighteen column problems need regrouping and the rest do not, so the two cases are mixed rather than blocked and the numbers run as high as 954. Problems 9 and 17, for instance, are "40 + 10 - 20" and "41 + 24 - 40". The sheet sits inside Common Core 2.NBT.5, in the grade 2 Number & Operations in Base Ten strand.
Skills practised
Grade 2 mixed operations means addition and subtraction within 100 and 1,000, and three-term problems. Specifically, the problems practise mixed addition and subtraction within 100, mixed facts within 20, and adding and subtracting three numbers. Working the page asks a student to regroup past ten rather than counting up one at a time. 21 different answers appear across the 24 problems, so a student cannot copy one result down the page.
About the mixed review format
Mixed review changes the problem shape as the page goes on, so the 24 problems here cover four different skills rather than one procedure repeated; problem 9, "40 + 10 - 20" sits next to problems of a different kind. This format is the operation's natural home: every problem shape the grade knows, in no fixed order.
Set A, Set B and Set C
All three sets are produced by the site's deterministic generator from a fixed seed, so they are the same every time the site is built and the answer keys are exact. Where Set A's problem 13 is "36 + 29 - 9", Set B's is "39 + 6 - 15".
How to use this worksheet
Five focused minutes beats twenty distracted ones at grade 2. Fold this mixed review in half, do one part of the 24 problems today and the rest tomorrow, and let the student use fingers or counters if they want them. Use the key as a check, not as a grade; none of the 24 problems needs a score attached to be useful.
One mistake to watch for
The operation sign is ignored: every problem on a mixed page is added. Watch problem 17 of this mixed review — "41 + 24 - 40" — for this one.
Sign reading is not yet part of the routine because most practice pages only carry one operation.
Have the student circle or trace every operation sign before solving anything on the page.
