72 measurement problems fill this timed drill page; problem 25 asks "8 lb = ___ oz", and the sheet stays at that level throughout. The numbers run as high as 120. Further down, problem 49 asks "8 km = ___ m". The sheet sits inside Common Core 4.MD.1, in the grade 4 Measurement & Data strand.

Skills practised

Grade 4 measurement means converting within the customary and metric systems, feet and inches together, and area and perimeter. What a student is asked to do here is converting within a measurement system, area and perimeter, and elapsed time. To finish it, a student has to reason backwards from a result to a missing part. 70 different answers appear across the 72 problems, so a student cannot copy one result down the page.

About the timed drill format

With 72 short problems such as problem 25, "8 lb = ___ oz" and a timer box, this page measures recall rather than method — write the time down, and aim to beat it on Set B. Unit conversions are facts — 12 inches, 100 centimeters, 60 minutes — and a timer shows which are known.

Set A, Set B and Set C

The three sets come from the same generator with three different seeds: same skill, same layout, fresh numbers, and an answer key computed with the problems. Where Set A's problem 37 is "7 kg = ___ g", Set B's is "2 kg = ___ g".

How to use this worksheet

Work the 72 problems straight through, then check against the key together rather than handing it back marked; asking a grade 4 student to find their own measurement error teaches more than seeing it circled. Date the timed drill before filing it. Set C from six weeks later is the cheapest evidence you have that the measurement stuck.
