What this worksheet covers
Set A of this grade 2 timed drill sheet holds 60 measurement problems on one printable page, with the answer key on the page behind it. What makes this set particular: the numbers run as high as 240. Two problems from the middle of the page — "8:00 plus 150 minutes" and "A ribbon is 16 cm long and a block is 26 cm long. How much…" — show the range. It is written against Common Core 2.MD.5 — Measurement & Data, grade 2.
Skills practised
Grade 2 measurement means adding and subtracting lengths, feet and inches, meters and centimeters, and time to the half hour. What a student is asked to do here is adding and subtracting lengths, comparing lengths, and time to the hour and half hour. To finish it, a student has to recall the measurement facts quickly and accurately, without counting up to them. 49 different answers appear across the 60 problems, so a student cannot copy one result down the page.
About the timed drill format
With 60 short problems such as problem 21, "8:00 plus 150 minutes" and a timer box, this page measures recall rather than method — write the time down, and aim to beat it on Set B. Unit conversions are facts — 12 inches, 100 centimeters, 60 minutes — and a timer shows which are known.
Set A, Set B and Set C
The three sets come from the same generator with three different seeds: same skill, same layout, fresh numbers, and an answer key computed with the problems. Where Set A's problem 31 is "46 m - 31 m", Set B's is "46 in - 31 in".
How to use this worksheet
Five focused minutes beats twenty distracted ones at grade 2. Fold this timed drill in half, do one part of the 60 problems today and the rest tomorrow, and let the student use fingers or counters if they want them. Print Set B of this measurement timed drill before writing on Set A; the same skill worked twice a week apart tells you far more than once.
