At grade 3, place value is about rounding to the nearest ten and hundred, and four-digit expanded form, and this sheet takes one slice of that. What a student is asked to do here is rounding to the nearest ten, rounding to the nearest hundred, and the value of a digit. To finish it, a student has to recall the place value facts quickly and accurately, without counting up to them. 42 different answers appear across the 72 problems, so a student cannot copy one result down the page.
About the timed drill format
With 72 short problems such as problem 25, "Round 350 to the nearest ten." and a timer box, this page measures recall rather than method — write the time down, and aim to beat it on Set B. Place-value questions answered quickly are the sign that the base-ten structure is understood rather than worked out.

How to use this worksheet
By grade 3 a student should take all 72 place value problems in one sitting. If the page takes more than about fifteen minutes, the underlying facts are probably not automatic yet, and that is worth fixing before more place value practice piles on. Mark the 72 problems the same day using the key — an error caught immediately is a correction, and one caught next week is a habit.
