Grade 1 Place Value Worksheets

The grade 1 place value sequence is about tens and ones to 99, ten more and ten less, and comparing two-digit numbers, and these five sheets cover it format by format, three versions each.

The drill has 20 problems, numbers to 90 (problem 7: "10 more than 14"). The timed drill has 60 problems, numbers to 102 (problem 21: "Which digit is in the tens place of 10?"). The missing number has 24 problems, numbers to 94 (problem 9: "9 tens and ___ ones = 94"). The mixed review has 24 problems, numbers to 98 (problem 9: "38 ___ 95"). The word problems has 8 problems, story problems (problem 3: "Hana has 9 bags of 10 marbles and 6 loose marbles. How many…").

Across the five sheets the generator draws on ten more and ten less, comparing two-digit numbers, naming the tens and ones digit, and tens and ones to 99. The pages are tagged to Common Core 1.NBT.5 and 1.NBT.2, and each tag links to the standards index.

If this level is not landing, step to kindergarten place value, where the focus is teen numbers as ten and some ones, counting on, and one more and one less; if it is too easy, grade 2 moves on to hundreds, tens and ones, expanded form to 999, and 10 or 100 more and less.

A useful order through these five grade 1 place value sheets: drill first, then mixed review to check the method survives a change of shape, then the missing-number sheet, and the timed drill last as a fluency check.
