What this worksheet covers
24 mixed operations problems fill this missing number page; problem 9 asks "4 × ___ = 44", and the sheet stays at that level throughout. What makes this set particular: the blank moves between positions from problem to problem, so no single procedure clears the page and the numbers run as high as 994. Skills practised
At grade 5, mixed operations is about order of operations with parentheses and multi-digit computation, and this sheet takes one slice of that. Specifically, the problems practise all four operations with multi-digit numbers. To finish it, a student has to reason backwards from a result to a missing part. 23 different answers appear across the 24 problems, so a student cannot copy one result down the page.
About the missing number format
The 24 problems here move the unknown around, so a student solves for a missing part as often as for a result; problem 9, "4 × ___ = 44" is one of them. A blank on a mixed page can belong to any operation, so the student has to reason about the relationship rather than recall a fact.

The three sets come from the same generator with three different seeds: same skill, same layout, fresh numbers, and an answer key computed with the problems. Where Set A's problem 13 is "2 × 12 = ___", Set B's is "___ × 4 = 72".
How to use this worksheet
By grade 5 a student should take all 24 mixed operations problems in one sitting. If the page takes more than about fifteen minutes, the underlying facts are probably not automatic yet, and that is worth fixing before more mixed operations practice piles on. Date the missing number before filing it. Set C from six weeks later is the cheapest evidence you have that the mixed operations stuck.
One mistake to watch for
The operation sign is ignored: every problem on a mixed page is added. On this grade 5 missing number, problem 17 ("487 + 994 = ___") is the kind of item where it shows.
Sign reading is not yet part of the routine because most practice pages only carry one operation.
Have the student circle or trace every operation sign before solving anything on the page.
