What this worksheet covers
Set A of this grade 5 mixed review sheet holds 30 measurement problems on one printable page, with the answer key on the page behind it. What makes this set particular: the numbers run as high as 5,000. Two problems from the middle of the page — "7 cm = ___ mm" and "10 m = ___ cm" — show the range. Common Core 5.MD.1 is the slot this page fills.
Skills practised
At grade 5, measurement is about conversions with decimals, volume of rectangular prisms, and missing dimensions, and this sheet takes one slice of that. The skills on the page: conversions with decimals, volume of rectangular prisms, and area and perimeter. Working the page asks a student to reason backwards from a result to a missing part. 26 different answers appear across the 30 problems, so a student cannot copy one result down the page.
About the mixed review format
The 30 problems are deliberately assorted — problem 11, "7 cm = ___ mm" is followed by something of another shape — so the student has to read each one rather than run the last method again. Perimeter, area, conversions and time on one page keep the student choosing the right formula for each problem.
Set A, Set B and Set C
The three sets come from the same generator with three different seeds: same skill, same layout, fresh numbers, and an answer key computed with the problems. Where Set A's problem 16 is "10 km = ___ m", Set B's is "3 days = ___ hr".
How to use this worksheet
Work the 30 problems straight through, then check against the key together rather than handing it back marked; asking a grade 5 student to find their own measurement error teaches more than seeing it circled. If more than a third of the 30 problems come back wrong, stop and step back a grade in measurement rather than assigning Set B.
One mistake to watch for
Perimeter and area are confused, or both are given in the same unit. Watch problem 21 of this mixed review — "10 m = ___ cm" — for this one.
The two ideas — distance around and space inside — have not been separated physically.
Trace the perimeter with a finger and shade the area for a few shapes; then insist on "units" versus "square units" in every answer.
