What this worksheet covers

Eighteen decimals problems fill this mixed review page; problem 7 asks "38.77 − 21.24", and the sheet stays at that level throughout. What makes this set particular: operands run to two decimal places, so the decimal points have to be lined up rather than the right-hand digits and the numbers run as high as 58.49. About the mixed review format

The 18 problems are deliberately assorted — problem 7, "38.77 − 21.24" is followed by something of another shape — so the student has to read each one rather than run the last method again. Adding, comparing and multiplying on the same page keeps the student choosing where the point goes rather than assuming.

How to use this worksheet

By grade 5 a student should take all eighteen decimals problems in one sitting. If the page takes more than about fifteen minutes, the underlying facts are probably not automatic yet, and that is worth fixing before more decimals practice piles on. Mark the eighteen problems the same day using the key — an error caught immediately is a correction, and one caught next week is a habit.

One mistake to watch for

Decimals are aligned to the right: 3.5 + 0.42 = 3.92. Watch problem 13 of this mixed review — "31.24 − 28.24" — for this one.

The right-alignment habit from whole numbers is being applied to a notation where the point, not the right edge, fixes the value.

Write in the placeholder zero (3.50) before adding; aligning the points then aligns everything else.
