What this worksheet covers
30 measurement problems fill this mixed review page; problem 11 asks "A rectangle has perimeter 30 in and length 3 in. Width =…", and the sheet stays at that level throughout. The numbers run as high as 841. Further down, problem 21 asks "A rectangle has area 12 sq cm and width 4 cm. Length = ___…". The sheet sits inside Common Core 3.MD.8, in the grade 3 Measurement & Data strand.
Skills practised
The grade 3 measurement sequence covers perimeter and area of rectangles, elapsed time in minutes, and grams and milliliters; this page sits inside it. Specifically, the problems practise perimeter of rectangles, area of rectangles, and elapsed time in minutes. Working the page asks a student to reason backwards from a result to a missing part.
About the mixed review format
The 30 problems are deliberately assorted — problem 11, "A rectangle has perimeter 30 in and length 3 in. Width =…" is followed by something of another shape — so the student has to read each one rather than run the last method again. Perimeter, area, conversions and time on one page keep the student choosing the right formula for each problem.
Set A, Set B and Set C
The three sets come from the same generator with three different seeds: same skill, same layout, fresh numbers, and an answer key computed with the problems. Where Set A's problem 16 is "A rectangle has area 66 sq ft and width 6 ft. Length = ___…", Set B's is "Perimeter of a 2 in by 8 in rectangle".
How to use this worksheet
Work the 30 problems straight through, then check against the key together rather than handing it back marked; asking a grade 3 student to find their own measurement error teaches more than seeing it circled. Mark the 30 problems the same day using the key — an error caught immediately is a correction, and one caught next week is a habit.
One mistake to watch for
Elapsed time is computed as if there were 100 minutes in an hour: 2:45 plus 30 minutes is 2:75. Watch problem 21 of this mixed review — "A rectangle has area 12 sq cm and width 4 cm. Length = ___…" — for this one.
Decimal place value is being applied to a base-60 system.
Count up to the next hour first, then add what is left.
