What this worksheet covers
This is a 22-problem missing number for grade 3 fractions, printed in black and white with the key on page two. Several problems use mixed numbers, which have to be handled without dropping the whole-number part and the blank moves between positions from problem to problem, so no single procedure clears the page. Problems 8 and 15, for instance, are "3/4 = ?/8" and "2/4 ___ 1/2". Common Core 3.NF.3 is the slot this page fills.

Grade 3 fractions means naming fractions of a whole, equivalent fractions, and comparing like denominators. The skill on the page: equivalent Fractions & Comparisons. Working the page asks a student to work in fractional units and give the answer in lowest terms and reason backwards from a result to a missing part. Seventeen different answers appear across the 22 problems, so a student cannot copy one result down the page.
About the missing number format
Each of the 22 problems has a blank, and the blank is not always at the end: problem 8, "3/4 = ?/8" puts it where the student has to reason backwards. A missing numerator or a missing factor asks the student to think about the fraction relationship in reverse.
Set A, Set B and Set C
Set A is the sheet as it was first published on MathSheetLab, and Sets B and C were derived from it problem by problem: each number became a slot redrawn with the same shape, and every answer was recomputed exactly. Where Set A's problem 12 is "2/3 ___ 4/6", Set B's is "2/3 ___ 4/6".
How to use this worksheet
Give this missing number uninterrupted. At grade 3, fractions is where procedure and recall have to run at the same time, and 22 problems done in fragments hide which of the two is the problem. Print Set B of this fractions missing number before writing on Set A; the same skill worked twice a week apart tells you far more than once.
One mistake to watch for
Equivalent fractions are made by adding the same number to top and bottom: 2/3 becomes 3/4. On this grade 3 missing number, problem 15 ("2/4 ___ 1/2") is the kind of item where it shows.
Multiplying and adding are being confused in the renaming step.
Draw the fraction, cut every piece in half, and count; the pieces double, they do not gain one.
