Within that, each problem arrives as a few sentences of context rather than a bare expression and several problems use mixed numbers, which have to be handled without dropping the whole-number part. The three sets come from the same generator with three different seeds: same skill, same layout, fresh numbers, and an answer key computed with the problems. Where Set A's problem 16 is "1/2 = ___/4", Set B's is "3/4 = ___/12".
How to use this worksheet
Work the 30 problems straight through, then check against the key together rather than handing it back marked; asking a grade 3 student to find their own fractions error teaches more than seeing it circled. Keep the key face down until all 30 problems are finished, then go through the misses together rather than only totalling the score.
One mistake to watch for
A larger denominator is taken to mean a larger fraction: 1/8 is judged bigger than 1/4. Problem 21 on this grade 3 drill page, "A square is cut into 8 equal parts and 6 parts are shaded.…", is where to look for it.
Whole-number thinking — eight is more than four — is being applied to the size of the pieces.
Fold a strip into fourths and another into eighths and compare one piece of each; more pieces means smaller pieces.
