If this level is not landing, step to grade 2 fractions, where the focus is naming halves, thirds and fourths of a shape, and half or a quarter of a set; if it is too easy, grade 4 moves on to adding and subtracting like denominators, equivalent fractions, and multiplying by a whole number.
Start with the grade 3 fractions drill to see whether the method is in place, use the timed drill only once accuracy is there, and save the word problems for the point where the student can compute without thinking about it.
