Grade 3 Fractions Worksheets

Grade 3 fractions covers naming fractions of a whole, equivalent fractions, and comparing like denominators. The five sheets below take that work in five formats, and each comes in three versions with its own answer key.

The drill has 30 problems, story problems (problem 11: "A rectangle is cut into 6 equal parts and 5 parts are…"). The timed drill has 72 problems, story problems (problem 25: "A circle is cut into 4 equal parts and 3 parts are shaded.…"). The missing number has 22 problems, small numbers throughout (problem 8: "3/4 = ?/8"). The mixed review has 30 problems, numbers to 16 (problem 11: "6/6"). The word problems has 10 problems, story problems (problem 4: "A library had 47 books on a cart and shelved 41 of them.…").

Across the five sheets the generator draws on naming fractions of a whole, equivalent fractions, comparing fractions with the same denominator, unit fractions on a number line, and fractions equal to one whole. The pages are tagged to Common Core 3.NF.1 and 3.NF.3, and each tag links to the standards index.

If this level is not landing, step to grade 2 fractions, where the focus is naming halves, thirds and fourths of a shape, and half or a quarter of a set; if it is too easy, grade 4 moves on to adding and subtracting like denominators, equivalent fractions, and multiplying by a whole number.

Start with the grade 3 fractions drill to see whether the method is in place, use the timed drill only once accuracy is there, and save the word problems for the point where the student can compute without thinking about it.
