What this worksheet covers

60 ratios and proportions problems fill this timed drill page; problem 21 asks "7:3 = 28:___", and the sheet stays at that level throughout. Within that, some values are written as fractions rather than whole numbers and operands run to two decimal places, so the decimal points have to be lined up rather than the right-hand digits. Further down, problem 41 asks "155 pages in 5 days = ___ pages per day". It is written against Common Core 7.RP.2 — Ratios & Proportional Relationships, grade 7.

Skills practised

The grade 8 ratios and proportions sequence covers proportional relationships and slope, solving proportions, similar figures and scale factors; this page sits inside it. The skills on the page: solving proportions, unit rates, and equivalent ratios. Concretely, the sheet tests whether a student can work in fractional units and give the answer in lowest terms, keep the decimal points aligned, and carry money notation through to the answer. 45 different answers appear across the 60 problems, so a student cannot copy one result down the page.

About the timed drill format

With 60 short problems such as problem 21, "7:3 = 28:___" and a timer box, this page measures recall rather than method — write the time down, and aim to beat it on Set B. Equivalent ratios and simple unit rates recalled quickly are multiplication facts wearing a different coat.

Set A, Set B and Set C

The three sets come from the same generator with three different seeds: same skill, same layout, fresh numbers, and an answer key computed with the problems. Where Set A's problem 31 is "Solve: x/4 = 108/36", Set B's is "Solve: 3/x = 27/27".

How to use this worksheet

Expect twenty minutes or so of real attention for 60 problems. At grade 8, ratios and proportions rewards care over speed — a rushed timed drill gets the arithmetic right and the signs or units wrong. Use the key as a check, not as a grade; none of the 60 problems needs a score attached to be useful.
