What this worksheet covers
There are ten story problems here — one page to work, one page of answers to check against — and Sets B and C repeat the layout with different numbers. What makes this set particular: every problem is set in a short situation, so the first decision is which operation it calls for and the quantities are amounts of money, so answers need a dollar or cent sign to be complete. Problems 4 and 7, for instance, are "A theater has 42 rows with 7 seats in each row. How many…" and "A classroom has 20 tables and 4 chairs at each table. How…".

The grade 5 multiplication sequence covers three-digit by two-digit multiplication and multiplying by powers of ten; this page sits inside it. Concretely, the sheet tests whether a student can read a situation and choose an operation before computing and carry money notation through to the answer.
About the word problems format
The 10 story problems each get a full line and an answer rule; problem 4, "A theater has 42 rows with 7 seats in each row. How many…" is one, and the answer key writes the unit with every answer. Equal groups, arrays and comparison situations all multiply, and recognising them is the skill the drill sheets cannot teach.
Set A, Set B and Set C
All three sets are produced by the site's deterministic generator from a fixed seed, so they are the same every time the site is built and the answer keys are exact. Where Set A's problem 6 is "A baker makes 3 muffins an hour. How many muffins does the…", Set B's is "There are 37 bags at the fair, and each one gives out 6…".
How to use this worksheet
Work the ten problems straight through, then check against the key together rather than handing it back marked; asking a grade 5 student to find their own multiplication error teaches more than seeing it circled. Use the key as a check, not as a grade; none of the ten problems needs a score attached to be useful.
One mistake to watch for
Zeros are lost when multiplying by multiples of ten: 6 × 40 becomes 24. On this grade 5 word problems, problem 7 ("A classroom has 20 tables and 4 chairs at each table. How…") is the kind of item where it shows.
The fact 6 × 4 is recalled and the ten is forgotten.
Rewrite 6 × 40 as 6 × 4 × 10 for a few days so the ten is a visible factor rather than a decoration.
