What is the…" among them, and the key gives each of the 10 answers with its unit. Fractions of recipes, distances and shares are where the abstract unit becomes a real quantity.

How to use this worksheet
Expect twenty minutes or so of real attention for ten problems. At grade 7, fractions rewards care over speed — a rushed word problems gets the arithmetic right and the signs or units wrong. Date the word problems before filing it. Set C from six weeks later is the cheapest evidence you have that the fractions stuck.
One mistake to watch for
Answers are left unsimplified or as improper fractions when the sheet asks for lowest terms. Problem 7 on this grade 7 word problems page, "Carla runs 7/8 mile in 1/2 hour. What is the speed in miles…", is where to look for it.
Simplifying is seen as an optional extra step rather than part of the answer.
Add a checking step: is there a number that divides both parts? Is the top bigger than the bottom?
