What this worksheet covers
There are eighteen addition problems here — one page to work, one page of answers to check against — and Sets B and C repeat the layout with different numbers. Seven of the eighteen column problems need regrouping and the rest do not, so the two cases are mixed rather than blocked and the numbers run as high as 20. Problems 7 and 13, for instance, are "8 + 18" and "1 + 12". It is written against Common Core 1.OA.6 — Operations & Algebraic Thinking, grade 1.
Skills practised
Grade 1 addition means fact fluency within 20, three addends, and two-digit plus one-digit numbers. Specifically, the problems practise grade 1 Addition Practice. Concretely, the sheet tests whether a student can regroup past ten rather than counting up one at a time. Thirteen different answers appear across the eighteen problems, so a student cannot copy one result down the page.
About the drill format
A drill is straight practice: 18 problems of the same kind, laid out across the page with working space under each — problem 7, "8 + 18" is typical of the whole page. A straight run of sums is where regrouping becomes routine rather than an event.
Set A, Set B and Set C
Set A is the sheet as it was first published on MathSheetLab, and Sets B and C were derived from it problem by problem: each number became a slot redrawn with the same shape, and every answer was recomputed exactly. Where Set A's problem 10 is "1 + 4", Set B's is "9 + 6".
How to use this worksheet
Grade 1 attention runs short, so split these eighteen addition problems over two or three sittings rather than pushing through in one; a number line or counters within reach is a strategy, not a failure. Mark the eighteen problems the same day using the key — an error caught immediately is a correction, and one caught next week is a habit.
One mistake to watch for
Regrouping is skipped: 47 + 38 is answered as 715. On this grade 1 drill, problem 13 ("1 + 12") is the kind of item where it shows.
Each column is treated as its own one-digit problem with no place-value structure joining them.
Return to expanded form for a few days and ask what 7 + 8 is worth; fifteen ones cannot sit in the ones column.
