Kindergarten Subtraction Worksheets

At kindergarten, subtraction means taking away within 5 and within 10, including taking from ten. Below are five worksheets on it — one per format — each in Set A, B and C with keys.

The drill has 20 problems, one of them regrouping (problem 7: "4 - 4"). The timed drill has 50 problems, nine of them regrouping (problem 17: "2 - 2"). The missing number has 20 problems, numbers to 10 (problem 7: "2 - 2 = ___"). The mixed review has 20 problems, eight of them regrouping (problem 7: "10 - 3"). The vertical format has 16 problems, one of them regrouping (problem 6: "2 - 1").

Across the five sheets the generator draws on subtraction within 5, subtraction within 10, and taking away from 10. The pages are tagged to Common Core K.OA.5, and each tag links to the standards index.

If this level is not landing, step to kindergarten subtraction, where the focus is taking away within 5 and within 10, including taking from ten; if it is too easy, grade 1 moves on to facts within 20, unknown-addend equations, and subtracting multiples of ten.

A useful order through these five kindergarten subtraction sheets: drill first, then mixed review to check the method survives a change of shape, then the missing-number sheet, and the timed drill last as a fluency check.
