Grade 8 Expressions & Equations Worksheets

The grade 8 expressions and equations sequence is about multi-step linear equations, operations in scientific notation and integer exponent rules, and these five sheets cover it format by format, three versions each.

The drill has 16 problems, numbers to 10 (problem 6: "(5.6 x 10^5) + (2.2 x 10^4)"). The timed drill has 22 problems, numbers to 10 (problem 8: "(9.0 x 10^-3) ÷ (3.0 x 10^2)"). The missing number has 24 problems, nineteen with negative values (problem 9: "Solve: 4x + 17 = -11"). The mixed review has 16 problems, numbers to 10 (problem 6: "(6.5 x 10^4) - (7.0 x 10^3)"). The word problems has 14 problems, story problems (problem 5: "Two phone plans cost the same at x minutes. Solve 5x + 8 =…").

Across the five sheets the generator draws on multi-step linear equations and two-step equations. The pages are tagged to Common Core 8.EE.4, 8.EE.3, and 8.EE.7, and each tag links to the standards index.

Expressions and equations continues at grade 6 and grade 7, so a student who finishes the grade 8 sheets can move up without changing topic.

A useful order through these five grade 8 expressions and equations sheets: drill first, then mixed review to check the method survives a change of shape, then the missing-number sheet, and the timed drill last as a fluency check.
